Men's Basketball Drops Decision to the Violets

New York-The Hunter College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference decision to New York University in the Hunter Sportsplex on Friday evening.

The Hawks (3-5, 0-1 CUNYAC) fell 123-97 to the 8-1 Violets. The game was a battle, with ten lead changes and saw double-digit numbers form four different Hunter players.

NYU was first on the board but the Hawks responded quickly, as possessions changed with the lead. The Purple and Gold led by as much as five in the first half but relinquished the lead with eight minutes to play.

With just over five minutes remaining in the first half, a three from Barrett Lowe put the Hawks ahead again, 40-39. The score would be tied twice more before the end of the half, but the Violets overwhelmed Hunter as first period came to a close with the home team trailing, 63-47.

The second half started as Cormac Reilly dropped one from behind the arc from Jared Brown. The remainder of play saw the gap widen as Hunter ultimately fell 123-97.

Despite the loss, Jeremy Montrose led the team with 15 points while Luka Jakic logged his second double-double of the season, registering 13 points and 11 rebounds. Raheem Bakary finished the night with 13 points followed by Lowe who hit a trio of three pointers in the contest.

The Hawks return to the court on Monday Dec. 13 against Purchase College. Tip off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
