Purchase, NY – The women's basketball team snapped a five game losing streak after defeating SUNY Purchase on the road earlier this afternoon. The 62-48 victory brings the Hawk's record to 3-6 overall.
The squad had nearly all of their starting five score in the double digits with
Erin Cosio leading the way with 14 points.
Kimberly Lau played the entire game and had 12 points to show for it while
Kristina Krslovic and
Katie Burke each registered 11 points. As a team, the Purple and Gold went 23-67 from the floor which included a 38.7 percent performance from behind the arc. Despite being out-rebounded, they had 12 steals, forced 27 turnovers and made the hosts pay by scoring 30 points off of turnovers.
Hunter faced an early first quarter deficit which reached its peak at the 17-8 mark due in part to a scoring drought that lasted nearly the final five minutes.
Morgan Gress knocked down a triple to close the first quarter and make it a six point game. Cosio drained a trey at the 4:22 mark in the second to knot the game at 25 apiece while Krslovic did the same to give the Hawks their first lead since the opening quarter. However, SUNY Purchase closed the final 2:32 with seven unanswered points to go up by five heading into the half.
The Hawks dominated the second half and outscored their opponents 34-15. They used a +10 scoring margin in the third to turn the five point deficit into a five point upper hand by the end of the quarter. Closing out the game, the team shot 6-14 over the final 10 minutes while holding the hosts to just one field goal, resulting in the 62-48 victory.
The women's basketball team returns to action on Thursday, December 30
th when they take on the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at home. Tip-off is scheduled for a noon start.
