BOX SCORE Danbury, Ct- The Hunter College women's tennis team started off the 2021 season the same way they ended the 2019 season, with a win. The Hawks traveled to Western Connecticut and took home a 8-1 victory. Coach
Alex Trezos said "This was an all around great win, we had a contribution from everyone, and the hard work this team has put in at practice showed today".
The Hawks swept the doubles matches, in the #1 doubles the Hunter team of
Zaara Afida and
Yana Rabkova took an 8-5 win, in #2 doubles Angelina Cataina and Lily O'heir won 8-1 and not to be outdone #3 doubles Julia Winer and
Bernice Shi also won 8-1.
In #2 singles Hawk new comer Yana Rabova won 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Angelina Cataina swept her college debut with a 6-0, 6-0 win in #3 singles, Junior
Bernice Shi, 1 of only 3 returners, won 6-1 and 6-0 in #4 singles. Julia Winer, a freshman from Carle Place, NY took home a 6-2 and a 6-3 win in #5 singles and fellow freshman Lily O'heir cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 #6 singles win.
The Hawks had four newcomers and three of them freshman making their collegiate debut. Hunter returns to the court on Wednesday September 8th traveling to Purchase, NY to take on Manhattanville College, first serve is 4pm.
