New York- The Hunter College men's basketball team took down Brooklyn College in a conference game at home on Saturday afternoon, 121-110.
Hunter (6-8, 2-3 CUNYAC) started off hot, taking a 10-2 lead right away. The Bulldogs (1-12, 0-6 CUNYAC) answered and held 12 point leads twice in the remainder of the period but the Hawks fought back, led by 11 points from
Cormac Reilly in the later part of the first half as they cut the deficit to one heading into the intermission.
The Purple and Gold found itself trailing again, as the Bulldogs reclaimed the lead and held it until the 10th minute when
Ryan Lau's three tied the game up and a layup from
Alioune Mbengue put the Hawks back on top, 86-84.
Brookyln got in front once again but back-to-back threes from
Gene Propper and Reilly put the Hawks back on top, where they would stay for the remainder of the game.
Although the visitors out shot Hunter's field goal and free throw percentage, the Hawks forced 22 turnovers compared to the Bulldogs' 15 and logged 39 fast break points to overwhelm their opponent.
Reilly and
Jeremy Montrose led the team with 21 points each, including five threes from Reilly.
Jared Brown followed with a season-best 16 point performance.
Hunter returns to the court on Jan. 19 for another home conference contest against York at 7:00 p.m.
