Volleyball Falls to NYU

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team's seven game winning streak was snapped by New York University in a home match on Tuesday evening.

The Hawks fell to the Violets, 3-0 to drop to 12-4 overall. The first set saw NYU (16-4) get off to a hot start, winning 25-17. Set #2 started out in a similar fashion, but with the Hawks trailing 13-8 the team was able to put up three straight points, including a pair of aces by Rookie of the Week, Bethany Tomenang, to come within two. From there, NYU fought back, scoring seven straight to widen the gap and would ultimately take the second set, 25-15. The Purple and Gold fought back in the third set which saw a back-and-forth battle of streaks for each team but the Violets would ultimately come out on top, 25-20.

The close competition featured senior Mariam Ouattaro, who recorded a team-high seven kills. She was followed by Mariapaz Lojano, with six kills who also added a pair of aces. Tomenang continued to show up for the Hawks, leading the team with 10 digs and 21 assists. Erin Dugan added a season-high three aces on the night.

Hunter returns to the court on Thursday Oct. 13 to celebrate it's senior class with a conference matchup against Baruch in the Sportsplex.
