Madison, N.J.- The Hunter College men's soccer team defeated FDU-Florham in the first round of the ECAC Tournament on Saturday evening. After a scoreless regulation, and double overtime, the match went to penalty kick's where the Hawks came out on top.
In the scoreless 110 minute contest, the Hawks were out shot 23-6, but keeper Matthew Heimowitz kept the devils off the board with eight saves. 19 different Hawks saw playing time in the match with six individuals logging attempts on goal.
As the stalemate continued through both OTs, the game went to penalty kicks to determine a winner.
Bradley Espejo was up first but was saved by the opponent's keeper in the lower left corner of the net. The Devils netted their first attempt, but Arutuyn Kazaryan got Hunter on the board. FDU-Florham responded to go up 2-1 but Conor Sullivan connected in the lower left to tie it up, 2-2. Captain
Blaise Enama then netted one of his own to put Hunter at a 3-2 advatage. The Hawks' fate was sealed as the Devils' missed high on their next attempt and
Sammy Ahmed scored in a perfect upper left placement to advance to the next round.
Hunter's postseason run continues on Sunday evening as they take on top-seeded Rutgers-Newark. Kick off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
