Hunter Drops Game Against Westfield State in Tip-off Championship Game

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team fell in the Tip-off Tournament Championship game against Westfield State, 84-51.

The loss brings the Hawks to 4-2 overall while the Owls advance to 4-1. Hunter picked up an 86-67 win over Lesley the day before to advance to the championship at home.

Alexa Charles led the Hawks in scoring, recording 17 points with eight rebounds. Erin Cosio  also reached double figures for Hunter, generating 13 points.

Hunter got in the board first with a layup by Charles but Westfield State quickly answered back and held the lead for the remainder of the half, heading into the break up 50-17. Hunter picked up the pace in the second half of play, almost doubling their points per quarter with 17 in each of the remaining two. The Owls continued to dominate pushing their lead beyond the Hawks reach. Kimberly Lau and Cosio netted back-to-back threes with five minutes remaining but the deficit was too large for Hunter to overcome before the night was over.

The All-Tournament team was announced after the completion of the game. From Lesley Sophia Torres, from UMass-Boston Meg Dixon, from Hunter College Erin Cosio, and Alexa Charles, and from the tournament champions Westfield State Jordan Grant, and the tournament MVP from Westfield was Olivia Hadla.

The Hawks return to the court on Tuesday November 22 at Stevens. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
