BOX SCORE New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball game fell to Mount Saint Mary in a nonconference matchup at the Hunter Sportsplex on Monday evening. The loss pushes the Hawks to 1-5 overall, white the Knights advance to 2-4 for the year.
Junior,
Luka Jakic led the Hawks with 17 points on the night in addition to three steals. Three other Hawks scored in double digits with Ernie Parada adding 14 off the bench while
Gene Propper and Devon Matthews each had 11 points. Matthews was able to grab six rebounds in the effort.
The game started out with a back-and-forth battle as the lead changed five times in the opening half of action. After going down 27-20, Hunter worked its way back with an 8-0 run as Propper netted a three from Matthews to overtake the Knights, 28-27 with seven minutes remaining in the half. Alioune Mbengue scored in the paint. The Purple and Gold was unable hold on for the half as Mount Saint Mary separated itself to take a 53-39 advantage to close out the first half.
The Hawks came out of the intermission firing, cutting the lead to just nine points within the first five minutes, led by Jakic who started off with a lay up. The Queens native then logged a steal resulting in a foul to add another point for the Hawks before knocking down a three assisted by
Jared Brown. Hunter was overwhelmed by the Knights as they trailed for the remainder of play, eventually falling 104-74.
Hunter returns to the court for its annual homecoming game against Baruch College on Friday Dec. 2nd and they open up conference play at home at 7:00 p.m.
