Hackesttown, NJ - Hunter men's basketball lost to William Patterson 108-93 in the championship game at the Centenary Tournament. With William Patterson defeating St. Joseph's of Brooklyn the day before, and Hunter knocking off host Centenary, the two local opponents met on a neutral court for the championship.
Hunter came out fast and pushed a very early lead out to 8-0 before William Patterson scored. At the 13:28 mark of the first half Hunter had pushed out the lead to 15. Hunter had 12 of the 15 players that played score in the game, and helped develop the early lead. William Patterson responded and with 4:08 in the half they had taken a 1 point lead. Going back and forth to end the half, WPU was up 2 and went on a mini 5-0 run to close out the half up 7.
Hunter cut the lead down to 6 with 15:38 in the game but was not able to get any closer in this game. Junior
Luka Jakic led the hawks with 18 points, shooting 50% from the field and going 2-3 from 3 point range.
Gene Propper came off the bench and had 16 points, he had the hot hand going 6-7 from the field and 3-4 from 3.
Casey Meyers had 14 points going 4-9 from 3, and rounding out the double digit scoring with 11 points.
12 Hawks scored in the game, while shooting 45% from the field and 40.5% from 3. Next up for Hunter will be hosting Medgar Evers in a CUNYAC conference double header on January 3rd with a 7pm scheduled tip off.
