Farmingdale, NY - The Hunter Women's Basketball team took home a non-conference road win at Farmingdale state, with a 80-46 victory. The Hawks improved to 6-6 overall on the season and grabbed their 3rd win away from the sportsplex.
Hunter came out fast with a 15-0 run to start the game over the first 6 minutes of play. Hunter finished the first quarter with a 28-7 lead. The second quarter opened up with scoring from both teams, as they continued to go back and forth until a jumper by Sophomore
Erin Cosio pushed the lead out to 24. With 1 minute to go in the half and another three by Cosio the Hawks had their biggest first half lead with 25.
To start the second half Hunter absorbed a run by Farmingdale fueled by freshman guard Victoria Kantzian, who scored the first 7 points for the Rams, but Hunter quickly responded with their own 7 point run. The hawks had 4 players finish in double digits, and 8 of the 9 players that played scored.
Freshman
Alexa Charles led the way with 19 points and a team high 10 rebounds, to go along with 6 steals and 5 assists. The freshman leads the country in steals with 67 and steals per game at 5.58. Sophomore
Erin Cosio scored 17 all in the first half with 5 assists, shooting 50% from the field and chipping in with 4 steals also. Senior captain
Kimberly Lau had a balanced game with 16 points, shooting 50% from the field and 2-3 from 3, and off the bench Freshman
Kennedy DeRuy had 17 points in 15 minutes. Shooting 6-10 from the field and 3-6 from 3.
The Hawks held Farmingdale to 29.8% from the field and caused 27 turnovers with 17 steals. Hunter was able to shoot 31-71 from the field for 43% with 21 assists on the 31 field goals.
Next up for Hunter is a home CUNYAC conference double header, hosting Medgar Evers on January 3rd with a 5pm tip off.
