Brooklyn, NY - The #5 women's basketball team ended their CUNYAC Championship Tournament run this evening with a 77-45 loss to #1 Brooklyn College in the semifinals. Despite a strong second half, the teams' struggles in the first two quarters proved to be too much to overcome. The loss puts the Hawk's 2021-22 season record to 10-14 overall.
Kimberly Lau was Hunter's leading scorer with 13 points on 4-9 from the field that included two triples and 3-5 from the charity stripe.
Nia Chung added 12 points in the loss while
Maya Thompson did her part with eight points and nine boards.
During the first two quarters, the Purple and Gold managed just three field goals, one of them being a three pointer, and one free throw. With just eight points on the board at halftime, they faced a 26 point deficit heading into the third quarter.
The team found their stride in the third, shooting nearly 43 percent from the floor and sinking three from downtown, resulting in an 18 point quarter. Despite the effort, Brooklyn responded with a 27 point quarter, furthering the point differential to 35.
With the final 10 minutes left to play, Hunter had their most productive quarter, turning in 19 points and outscored the hosts by three. However, it was not enough to overcome the 30+ point deficit. Brooklyn will advance to the CUNYAC Championship.
