Softball Suffers Sweep at Monclair

The Hawks are now 1-3 on the year

Montclair, NJ - The Hunter softball team took on the Hawks of Montclair State on the road earlier this afternoon. The Hawks managed to produce just four hits combined between the two games, resulting in an 8-0 shutout in the first and a 5-1 loss in the second.

Game 1 (Hunter-0 Montclair-8)
Hunter threatened early with Sophia Perez taking a leadoff walk and then stealing both second and third with one out. However, the hosts would get out of the inning with Hunter leaving one on. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Montclair capitalized on two Hunter errors and put up five runs on the board. The Purple and Gold were unable to get anyone on base the rest of the game and allowed another three runs to fall 8-0 in the first of the twinbill.

Leah Dillon started in the circle and tossed 2.1 innings while allowing just two hits in nine batters faced. T'ea Panagakos gave up five runs on three hits in .2 innings of relief while Alyssa Curiale closed it out.

Game 2 (Hunter-1 Montclair-5)
Paige Witalec and Nicole Bowe both reached base after being hit by a pitch in the first. With runners on first and second with one out, Olivia Palumbo had a clutch RBI base hit up the middle to put the Hawks on the board immediately. However, the hosts wasted no time responding with two in the second to go up 2-1. The Hawks stranded a runner in each of the ensuing three innings while Montclair enjoyed a 5-1 lead heading into the seventh inning. Samantha Marsala led off the top of the seventh with a leadoff single, but it's all the Hawks would get.

Sara Schor started in the circle and threw four innings and allowed five runs on 10 hits in 20 batters faced. Dillon came in for two innings of relief and retired all six batters.

The team is back in action Tuesday, March 22 when they take on William Paterson.
