Men's Volleyball Bounced in Opening Round of ECAC Tournament by Kean, 3-0

New York, N.Y. - The sixth-seeded Hunter College men's volleyball program concluded the 2022 campaign on Wednesday, when they dropped three straight sets to Kean University in the opening round of the ECAC tournament inside the Hunter Sportsplex.

Raymond Yu led the Hawks on offense, posting eight kills with a .615 hitting percentage, and zero errors on the night. Cooper Moran paced the attack, despite the loss, finishing with 25 assists. In his sophomore season, Moran posted a team-leading 549 assists alongside a second-best 20 service aces.

Kean, who advances to the ECAC semifinals, managed to jump out to a 16-11 advantage in the opening set, but Hunter cut the Cougar lead to just one with an 8-4 run. The Hawks found themselves down a set after several errors down the stretch allowed the visitors to take the opening frame.

The second set played out much like the first, with Kean finding a narrow edge, followed by a Hunter comeback. The Hawks came within one with the help of a Niro Osbourne kill and Cougar service error, but the visiting team scored seven of the final ten points to move ahead 2-0 in the match.

The third set was Hunter's best offensive display, as they only tallied four collective hitting errors, but on the opposite side, Kean hit .412 as a team with 20 kills to take the win. After a 19-all stalemate, the Cougars closed out the final set on a 5-2 run to secure a 25-21 victory and the chance to move on in the playoffs.

Hunter concludes the season at 12-8 overall with a berth to the ECAC tournament and finalist trophy from the CUNYAC tournament.
