Bronx, NY - The women's softball team won their third straight double header earlier this afternoon, extending their win streak to six in a row after clobbering Lehman College, 8-0 and 17-1. The victories bolster the Hawk's overall record to 7-7 while remaining perfect in league action at 6-0.
Game 1 (Hunter-8 | Lehman-0)
At the plate,
Nicole Bowe and
Alyssa Curiale accounted for four of the teams' six hits while
Sophia Perez and
Paige Witalec each scored two runs apiece. In the circle,
T'ea Panagakos tossed the first four innings and allowed just three hits while striking out five in the the shutout win. Curiale hurled the final inning and kept the Lightning at bay, striking out one in the process.
Perez led off the top of the 1st with a single and then stole second. After advancing to third on an
Olivia Palumbo grounder, Witalec drove her in after grounding out to the pitcher to put the Hawks on the board.
The Purple and Gold did most of their damage in the second, scoring six runs on six hits and help from three Lehman miscues. A leadoff double from Curiale sparked the offensive onslaught. After batting around the order, Curiale stepped up to the plate with two outs and blasted an RBI single to make it a 7-0 affair before Fowler made the final out.Â
They added an insurance run in the fourth to make it an 8-0 game. Lehman was unable to get a runner pasted second base the entire game and was kept scoreless as the Hawks took game one.Â
Game 2Â (Hunter-17Â | John Jay-1)
Perez filled the stat sheet with a 3-4 performance from the plate that included four runs scored, a walk and stolen base. Palumbo had a four-RBI game to go along with her 1-3 day that included three runs scored, a double, two walks and a stolen base. Bowe also impressed offensively, going 2-2 with three RBI, two walks and two runs scored. Also highlighting the second game was a four-RBI performance from
Samantha Marsala after going 2-3 with a run scored.
Sarah Schor started for the Hawks and tossed four innings while letting up one run on one hit while fanning five in the win. Curiale once again came in for a final relief inning and struck out two of three batters faced.
Hunter opened the game with a three-run first inning. Lehman responded with their first and only run of the day in the bottom of the frame. In the second, the Hawks scored seven runs on six hits to make it 10-1 and put it out of reach early. Over the rest of the game, the Purple and Gold added one in the third, two in the fourth and put the cherry on top with a four-run fifth and final inning. Lehman, from the second inning on, was unable to get a base runner as the Hawks retired them one-two-three each time.
The team return to action tomorrow, April 14 when they play Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. The first game of the double header is scheduled to begin at 3pm.
