BOX SCORE 2 Bronx, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team took home two victories in a trimatch against CUNYAC opponents, Lehman and Medgar Evers on Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated (4-0) in conference play and advance to 14-5 overall.
Hunter started the day off against the host, Lehman College with a straight set victory. They took the opening set 25-11 with an impressive .357 hitting percentage. The second set continued in a similar fashion, with Hunter's relentless performance. They secured a 25-11 win, displaying their prowess in both offense and defense. Lehman found it difficult to break through Hunter's solid blocking and efficient serving. In the final set, the Purple and Gold sealed the deal with a convincing 25-5 victory, completing the clean sweep in straight sets. The Hawks' dominance was evident as they controlled the match from start to finish.
Tionna Moss led the team with a .737 hitting percentage while contributing 15 kills. Desiree Morales chipped in with eight kills and four service aces, while Pearl Mensah added six kills or a .556 hitting percentage. Kayla Treadwell also contributed a season-high four aces. Kiara Abreu led with 36 assists in the win in addition to seven digs.
While the Hawks remained undefeated in conference competition, Lehman continued to face difficulties in falling to 0-3 in the CUNYAC standings.
The second match of the day saw the Hawks face off against Medgar Evers. The first set saw Hunter College dominate from the very beginning, securing a comfortable 25-8 win in the first set, The Hawks quickly dispatched the Cougars 25-4 in the second set, showcasing their powerful offense and solid defense. In the final set, The Purple and Gold sealed the deal with a 25-4 victory, securing a clean sweep in straight sets.
Tessa Winkleman was the standout performer for Hunter, contributing 17 kills with a remarkable hitting percentage of .481. She also chipped in with four service aces and six digs. Moss again led the team with a .875 hitting percentage in addition to seven kills, while Morales followed with a .667 hitting percentage, recording four kills and a pair of aces. Abreu and Liliana Khidr both had an impressive six aces each, with Abreu facilitating the offense with 32 assists while Khidr added four kills and a pair of blocks on the defensive side of the net.
The match proved to be a one-sided affair as the Hawks continued their unbeaten streak in the CUNYAC conference, improving to 4-0, while Medgar Evers faced another tough loss, remaining winless in conference play with an 0-6 record.
