Flushing, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's tennis team fell to Baruch College, 5-1 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The no. 2 seeded Hawks were edged out by no. 1 Baruch in a rematch of last year's championships.
Hunter garnered its only with of the day at no. 3 doubles as
Lily O'Heir and
Mia Chan partnered up to pick up an 8-2 win. Despite the victory, Baruch took the remaining two doubles matches.
Angelina Catania and
Anna Chapko fell at the no. 1 slot 8-4 and
Grace Portuese and
Lily McAndrews dropped no. 2 (8-2).
Catania competed at no.1 singles but was unable to overcome the match's Most Valuable Player in the two set match. Chapko and
Lily McAndrews were the remaining two Hawks to finish their singles matches at no. 2 and no. 4 singles, respectively. Despite hard fought matches, both fell 6-0, 6-0 to round out the day.
Hunter concludes its season at 6-6 overall and 4-1 in CUNYAC play, with today marking the team's first conference loss of the year.
