New York, N.Y.- The top seeded Hunter College women's volleyball team defeated Brooklyn College, 3-0, in the semifinals of the City University of New York Athletic Conference tournament to advance to the conference championships where they will face off against no. 3 John Jay.
The final set scores were 25-20, 25-23, 25-1. The first set saw Hunter establishing an early lead, securing crucial points through a combination of powerful attacks and strategic serves. In the second set, Brooklyn showed resilience, narrowing the point gap. However, the Hawks maintained composure, clinching the set with a narrow margin. The third set saw the Purple and Gold taking control, with Williams, Tomaneng, and Mattison leading the charge. Despite Brooklyn's efforts, Hunter secured the win and the match.
Hunter never let up, maintaining their undefeated CUNYAC record. Strong offensive performances, effective setting, and solid defense were key factors in their victory with
Izabella Williams leading he offensive charge with an impressive 13 kills on 34 attempts, showcasing a notable hitting percentage of .235.
Bethany Tomaneng orchestrated the offense effectively, tallying 26 assists and making strategic contributions with three kills and six digs. Senior,
Lily Mattison added five kills across 10 attempts for a .300 hitting percentage. Libero of the Year,
Erin Dugan, led all players with 13 digs, while Tessa Winkleman added 11.
The Hawks advacne to the CUNYAC Championship game against John Jay in the Hunter Sportsplex on Nov. 10th.
