New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team capitalized its senior night celebration with an 89-45 win over CCNY to close out the regular season. The Hawks honored seniors
Kimberly Lau and
Nia Chung both of whom logged near double-doubles in the win. The victory puts the Hawks at 14-11 overall and 9-5 in conference for the 2022-23 season.
Kimberly Lau had a season-high 10 assists in the win, in addition to nine points, four steals, and four rebounds.
Nia Chung had 10 points of her own plus eight rebounds while grabbing four steals and a pair of blocks.
Hunter started the game out strong, exploding for 31 points in the first quarter while holding CCNY to a mere two points. Although the Beavers were able to put up 17 points in the second period, just three behind the Hawks, the visitors still entered the intermission trailing by 32. The Hawks had another big run coming out of halftime, outscoring their opponent 27-14 in the third period. Despite CCNY's 12-11 edge in the final quarter of play, the Hawks were still able to come out on top to close out the season.
Alexa Charles led the Hawks with 22 points on the night shooting 11-16 from the field while grabbing 9 rebounds, five steals, and dishing out six assists.
Erin Cosio netted four threes on the night to contribute to her 18 total points while
Kennedy DeRuy had a season-high 12 points coming off the bench.
Hunter amassed 26 steals in the win, compared to the Beavers' 12, in part due to Eliah Yode's impressive seven steals. She also added seven points and three rebounds.
The Hawks shot for 46.4% overall while holding their opponent to 24.6%. They also out-rebounded the Beavers' 51-38 while forcing 37 turnovers.
Hunter awaits post-season seeding for the CUNYAC Playoffs set to be announced Thursday.
