Men's Basketball Concludes Season in CUNYAC Semifinals

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team concluded its 2022-23 season with a 96-88 loss to Baruch College in the CUNYAC Semifinals on Tuesday evening. The Hawks concluded their campaign with a 10-16 overall mark and 6-8 in conference. Baruch advances to the CUNYAC Championships where they will face off against Lehman on Friday.

After an early point for point exchange, the Hawks led for the majority of the first half, going up by as much as eight (23-15) in the 10th minute as Cormac Reilly sank a free throw. Baruch fought back to tie the game up at 33-33. Despite the Bearcats' run, Hunter was able to keep it within five until the final minute and half of play as the home team separated itself to go into the intermission up 52-45. 

In the second period, the Hawks fought back from a ten point deficit, the regain their first lead of the half at 8:33 (75-73) as Casey Meyers sank a three. With two minutes remaining, Hunter had an 88-86 edge but Baruch took control scoring the final 10 points of the game to knock out the Hawks by an eight point margin.

Hunter shot 35.4% overall and 28.8% from three, as the netted 15 triples total, while the team shot for 83.3% from the line. Baruch finished with 37.9 field goal percentage, 31.9% from three, and 76.7% from the free throw line. Baruch grabbed 52 rebounds just over the Hawks' 50. Hunter grabbed six steals compared to Baruch's two and forced 11 turnovers while the Bearcats had nine. 

Luka Jakic led the team with an 17 point, 18 rebound double-double. Meyers added 14 points including four threes. Reilly recorded 12 points of his own, including a three triples, while grabbing a trio of rebounds. Enzo Caceres-Roussel also scored in double-digits, contributing 10 points. Jeremy Montrose and Jared Brown each grabbed a pair of steals as well.
