Purchase, NY – The Hunter softball team traveled to SUNY Purchase and swept a non-conference double header 14-1, and 10-2. The Hawks improve to 5 and 11 and have won 3 in a row!
Hunter 14 purchase 1- Here is how is happened:
Sophia Perez led off the game with a walk and promptly stole second base.
Paige Witalec singled moving Perez to third and advanced to second on the throw in.
Nicole Bowe stepped up a had a base hit up the middle driving in Perez and moving Witalec to third. After a stolen base by Bowe,
Adriana Ramirez walked to load the bases and
Jessica Fowler walked to bring in the Hawks second run.
Purchase changed pitchers and with the bases loaded
Olivia Palumbo hit a triple driving in 3 runs and scored on an error by the right fielder to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead.
Leading off the 2
nd inning
Nicole Bowe drew a leadoff walk, and stole second.
Adriana Ramirez drove Bowe in with a single to right center field. With two on
Leah Dillon drove in
Jessica Fowler with an RBI ground out to third base,
Kierra Shaw singled driving in Palumbo. Shaw eventually came around to score on a passed ball.
Sophia Perez hit a triple with Ramirez on third base to put the Hawks up 11-0. Witalec continued her hot start to the season with a double down the left field line driving in Perez.
The Hawks picked up 1 in the 3
rd and 5
th, while
T'ea Panagakos held purchase to 1 run over 5 innings. She had great control with 5 strikeouts, no walks and spread out 4 hits for her first win of the season.
Game #2 Hunter 10 Purchase 2:
To start the game of Hunter loaded the bases with three straight walks,
Adriana Ramirez drove in the first run on a fielder's choice. With the bases loaded again after a Fowler walk Palumbo singled to leftfield for another RBI on the day. With another run scored on a fielder's choice the Hawks went out to play defense behind
Alyssa Curiale with a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the second Perez walked, stole second and Bowe drove her in with a base hit up the middle. In the top of the 3
rd with two runners on JoJo Galva dropped a bunt down to bring fowler home and draw a throw that allowed Palumbo to score from second for a 7-0 lead. On the day
Olivia Palumbo was 4-5 with 5 rbi's and 5 runs scored,
Sophia Perez scored 4 runs and had 3 stolen bases,
The hawks tacked on 3 more in the next two innings for a 10-2 win.
Alyssa Curiale picked up her first win in the circle going 5 innings with 9 strikeouts and spreading out 3 hits and 2 runs.
Hunter returns to action on Wednesday April 5
th when they host CUNYAC conference rival Lehman at Randall's Island Field #28 first pitch scheduled for 3pm.
