Hawks Fall to Baruch in CUNYAC Tournament

Brooklyn, N.Y.- The third seeded Hunter College women's softball team fell to no. 2 Baruch College in the CUNYAC Tournament, 4-0, on Friday afternoon on Bulldog Field.

The loss marked the end of the Hawks' run in the double-elimination tournament. Both defenses kept things tight for the first three innings, with just one run on the board for Baruch. An explosive bottom of the fourth put Baruch ahead 4-0 and despite the down day off the bats, Hunter remained strong in the field to silence the Bearcats for the remainder of the game.

Alyssa Curiale (5-5), started the day for the Hawks, pitching 3.1 innings with three earned runs. T'ea Panagakos served as the reliever for the remaining 2.2 innings as she faced 12 batters and allowed just one hit.

The Hawks recorded five hits, just one behind their opponents' six. Just the second batter of the day, Jessica Fowler recording a single on her first at bat. In the second inning, catcher Olivia Palumbo also reached on a single. By the top of the third, Kayla Pilotti recorded a single of her own, followed by a stolen base, her first of the season. Nicole Bowe and Johany Galva also recorded hits on the day, while Sophia Perez and Paige Witalec were able to work walks.

Hunter recorded 18 put outs, just trailing the Bearcat's 21. First baseman, Leah Dillon, led the team with seven on the day including a double-play in tandem with Bowe, who had three of her own plus a pair of assists. Witalec recorded two putouts and two assists on the day, while Perez tacked on duo of putouts.
