New York, NY- The Hunter women's volleyball team continued its 4-game winning streak with a 3-0 home win over Farmingdale State. The Hawks came out strong in set number 1 with a 25-12 win. The second set proved to be a back-and-forth battle that Hunter prevailed in, with a score of 25-23. The Hawks never gave up the momentum when they took home a 25-8 final set victory. Hunter improves to 6-1 overall, and this weekend will travel to Western Connecticut for three matches against Western Connecticut, Manhattanville, and Morrisville State.
In game #1, Hunter had an offensive outburst, hitting .500. The Hawks had 14 kills on 26 swings and only 1 error. Overall, in the three sets, the Hawks had a 36 to 23 advantage in kills and hit .282 compared to the Rams' -.019. In game #2, it was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team gaining a 3-point lead. There were 5 lead changes, and the score was tied 3 times. Farmingdale had a 22-20 lead when a ball handling error closed it to 21-22, and Hunter gained the serve. With the match tied at 22, the Rams once again took the lead with a kill by Madeline Stanley. Hunter responded with 3 straight points; Lily Mattison had back-to-back kills to give the Hawks a 24-23 lead. Farmingdale was not able to connect on an attack, resulting in a forced error that ended game 2 in favor of Hunter. Game #3 was paced with runs in favor of Hunter; they opened up with 6 straight points to start the final set. Then, with the match at 8-7, Hunter went on a 14-0 run to take a commanding 22-8 lead.
Izabella Williams once again led Hunter with 10 kills. Tionna Moss was right behind her with 9 kills and 2 blocks on the outside. Lily Mattison had a full stat line with 6 kills, hitting a blistering .667, along with 4 blocks and 2 aces. Bethany Tomaneng and Kiara Abreu both had 16 assists, while Erin Hyman patrolled the back line with a team-high 12 digs.
