BOX SCORE New York, NY- The Hunter College women's volleyball team dropped a tight four-set match to Kean University last night, with scores of 25-18, 19-25, 19-15, and 22-25. Hunter will be traveling to Wilkes-Barre, PA, to take on Wilkes and Marywood in a tri-match on Saturday, September 23rd.
Hunter was able to grab the lead by winning the first set 25-18, but they were unable to top Kean in the next three sets. As the scores would indicate, both teams were incredibly close in all statistical categories. However, Hunter was not able to sustain a run at the end of the sets to extend their lead.
Tessa Winkleman continues to grow into a bigger role, leading the Hawks with 13 kills and hitting .333 in the four sets. Sophomore Lily Mattison had her best game of the year with 9 kills, hitting a team-high .350, and picking up a solid block and an ace. Her opposite middle, Senior Pearl Mensah, had a game-high 3.5 blocks, keeping Hunter in the match.
Sophomore setter Bethany Tomaneng was all over the court with 40 assists, 4 kills, 3 aces, and 9 digs. Izabella Williams had another full stat line with 12 kills, 3 aces, and a team-high 16 digs. Erin Hyman picked up 14 digs in the libero role, while Tionna Moss had 9 kills and 1.5 blocks.
Hunter's overall record dropped to 9-2. After this weekend, they will travel to another NJAC foe, going to Rutgers-Newark.
