New York, NY - The Hunter College Hawks hosted St. Joseph's College of Long Island at Randall's Island today on Field 70. This was Hunter's home opener for the 2023 season.

Hunter and St. Joe's played a tightly contested match that ended in St. Joe's favor, 2-0. Both teams went into halftime tied at 0-0, with each team having taken three shots. Hunter held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Matthew Heimowitz made two of his six saves in the first half.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, in the second half, St. Joe's managed to score twice. They broke through with a goal in the 66th minute. Bradley Espejo responded almost immediately with a shot on goal, but it was saved by the St. Joseph's keeper. A minute later, St. Joe's scored another goal and secured the 2-0 victory.

The Hawks look to bounce back tomorrow as they travel to Montclair State for a 4pm kickoff.
