BOX SCORE New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team edged out Medgar Evers 2-1 in a tightly contested match at Randall's Island. With the win, the Hawks move to 4-9-1 (2-4 CUNYAC), while the Cougars dropped to 2-12-1 overall and 0-5 in league contests.

Hunter took control early, with Ahmed Abukar scoring in the 28th minute, assisted by Christian Rodriguez. Rodriguez continued to be a pivotal playmaker, later setting up Rafael Villacres for Hunter's second goal in the 42nd minute, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. Rodriguez's two assists were crucial in creating opportunities for Hunter's attack.

Hunter's offensive pressure was relentless, firing 27 shots, 17 of which were on target. Abukar and Villacres stood out with their precise shooting, each contributing goals at critical moments. Saleel Eldin and Rodriguez were also heavily involved in the attack, with Rodriguez testing the Medgar Evers defense throughout the match. Rodriguez stood out with an exceptional day on both ends of the field, as he stifled the Cougars' last minute efforts with a crucial stop, preventing a one-on-one with Hunter's keeper in the last minute of play.

In goal, Matthew Heimowitz was a rock for Hunter, making six saves to keep the opposition at bay. Despite Medgar Evers' Bertini Jean pulling one back just before halftime, Hunter's defense held firm, allowing no goals in the second half.

Hunter's ability to maintain possession and consistently press the Medgar Evers defense, combined with their eight corner kicks, kept the pressure on their opponents throughout the game.

The Hawks' return to the pitch on Oct. 23 as they host CCNY in their annual Senior Game on Randall's Island at 3:00 p.m.
