BOX SCORE Flushing, N.Y.- The second-seeded Hunter College women's tennis team dominated no. 3 Brooklyn College in a 5-0 sweep during the semifinal round of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) playoffs.
The Hawks' doubles teams set the tone early, winning all three doubles matches in commanding fashion. The top doubles pair,
Anna Chapko and
Julia Aksamentova, triumphed with an 8-1 victory, while the #2 team of
Sara Novo and
Sree Kolla shut out their opponents 8-0. Rounding out the sweep,
Sara Contreras and
Ava Cooper clinched an 8-0 win in the #3 doubles match.
Hunter continued its stellar performance in singles play, highlighted by Chapko's impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory at #1 singles, which showcased her skill and consistency. Summer Nietubicz added to Hunter's dominance with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in the #6 singles match, securing the decisive win and advancing the Hawks to the finals.
Hunter College, now eyeing the championship, will face top-seeded Baruch College in the CUNYAC finals on October 31 at 3:00 pm at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center.
