Hawks Upset CCNY to Advance to CUNYAC Championship

Jamaica, N.Y.-  In a thrilling overtime match at the York Athletic Complex, the Hunter College men's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over no. 2 CCNY, to advance to the CUNYAC Championship game.

The Hawks' upset win was propelled by the standout performance of sophomore forward Saleel Eldin. Eldin showcased his scoring prowess, netting both of Hunter's goals, including the game-winner in the 96th minute. After a tightly contested first half, Eldin opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, capitalizing on an assist from Christian Rodriguez. CCNY managed to equalize with a penalty kick in the 76th minute, but Hunter's resolve held strong, and Eldin's overtime goal clinched the win.

Hunter goalkeeper Matthew Heimowitz was pivotal, making 11 saves before being substituted by Max Tsigalnitsky, who added two more saves in his 29 minutes, helping secure the Hawks' defense late in the game.

With this hard-fought victory, Hunter advances to the conference championship game, on Nov. 9 with the opponent TBA.
