BOX SCORE New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team closed out regular season play this evening with a tough match up against nationally ranked New York University.
Hunter (20-8) fell to #7 NYU (19-10) in three sets (25-11, 25-20, 25-13 )Â at the Sportsplex. After a quiet first set from the Hawks, the team battled back in the second set, fighting back from a 10 point deficit to come within three points. The Violet's offense ultimately overwhelmed the Hawks in the final plays of the set, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The third set saw the Purple and Gold drop the first seven points, but the squad never quit, putting up multiple 4-0 runs. Unfortunately, Hunter could recover from the early deficit and dropped the final set, 25-13.
Despite the tough match,
Izabella Williams continued to shine as she tallied seven kills, seven digs, and a pair of blocks.
Simone McIntyre and
Amina Moummad also added seven kills a piece, while
Bethany Tomaneng added a team-high 11 digs as she paced the offense with 19 assists. Captain,
Erin Dugan also notched six digs in the three setter.
Vera Montalbano and
Lily Mattison also contibuted with a pair of kills each.
Regardless of the the loss, the Hawks finished as CUNYAC Regular Season Champions and the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
