New York, N.Y.- Hunter College's women's swimming team made a splash at their first home meet of the season, kicking off the 2024 homecoming festivities with a commanding victory over Purchase College, 50-37.
The evening began with the women's 200-yard medley relay, where HaileyQuiller, Parvina Makhmadalieva, Lian Winter, and Kateryna Titarenko, set the tone with a winning time of 2:11.20 for the Hawks as they secured valuable points early and established momentum.
Standout performances were plentiful. Gwendolyn Posner displayed endurance in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing first with a time of 14:36.32. Germayne Chau followed with an impressive 2:16.97 in the 200-yard freestyle, further solidifying Hunter's lead. Cara Chang's speed was on full display as she dominated the 50-yard freestyle (28.46) and later excelled in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.96).
Hunter's versatility shone in the 200-yard individual medley, where Winter clinched first place in 2:33.62, followed closely by teammate Makhmadalieva at 2:38.40.
Quiller and Titarenko doubled up on their successes in the 100-yard freestyle, securing first (1:03.03) and second (1:04.70) respectively. Their efforts capped a meet that saw Hunter excel in both individual and team events.
The Hawks return to the pool this weekend as they compete in the ECAC winter championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.
