New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College's women's basketball team wrapped up their regular season on a high note as the team's win streak was pushed to five with a dominant victory over York on Valentine's Day. The final score stood at 78-48, as the Hawks improved to 14-11 overall and 10-4 in conference while York remains winless.
Right from the tip-off, Hunter set the tone for the game, quickly building a lead in the first quarter. Alexa Charles led the charge with her exceptional performance, showcasing her versatility with 26 points, 14 rebounds, and a remarkable five steals. Nina Hennessy also contributed significantly, adding 13 points to the scoreboard.
The Hunter Hawks maintained their momentum throughout the game, with solid contributions from Erin Cosio and Katie Burke, who scored 11 and 6 points respectively. The team's defense was particularly impressive, forcing 32 turnovers and converting them into 41 points on the other end of the court.
On the defensive end, Hunter effectively shut down York's offense, limiting them to just 48 points for the entire game as they shot 34.9% overall.  Despite York's efforts, they couldn't overcome Hunter's relentless pressure as the team grabbed 18 steals with five of them coming from Charles while shooting 43.2% overall.
The win concludes Hunter's regular season with a commendable 14-11 overall record and an impressive 10-4 record in the CUNYAC conference. As they head into the postseason, the team will look to carry this momentum forward and make a deep run in the playoffs. With their well-rounded performance against York, the Hunter Hawks have proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming postseason battles.
The conference tournament begins Saturday Feb. 17th with seeding TBA.
