Hunter Falls to Baruch in Semifinals, 83-67

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball fell in the semifinals of the CUNYAC Championship tournament against no. 1 Baruch College on Wednesday evening. The loss closes out Hunter's 2023-24 season with a 12-15 overall record and 8-6 in conference play.

The first half saw a closely contested battle between the two teams, with Baruch holding a slight lead at halftime with a score of 39-33. The Hawks put up a strong effort with Kareem McDonald netting 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play, the most of any player on the court.

As the game progressed into the second half, Baruch began to pull away, pushing its lead to double-digits within the first five minutes. From there, Hunter continued to fall behind. At 2:33 a good three-pointer from Corey Jones Jr. put the Hawks within 10 again but the Bearcats' offense overwhelmed the Hawks in the end. Baruch secured the 83-67 win to advance to the  CUNYAC championship game against Lehman College later this week.

McDonald closed out the night with 21 total points while grabbing five rebounds and two steals. Jack Meyers also logged double-digits with 12 points and an impressive five blocks, while Jones Jr., Luka Jakic, and William Brown each added nine tallies for the Hawks. Overall, Hunter shot 43.5% (30.8% 3PT, 71.4% FT), compared to Baruch's 51.6%, 42.9% and 80% stat line.
