Brooklyn, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team fell to Brooklyn College in the semifinals of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament, 65-59.
From the tip-off, both teams demonstrated their determination to dominate the court. The first quarter saw a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to gain a significant advantage. Alexa Charles and Erin Cosio led the charge for the Hawks, sinking crucial shots to give the Purple and Gold an early lead. However, the Bulldogs quickly responded, keeping the score tied at 15-15 by the end of the quarter.
The intensity only grew in the second quarter as both teams fought tooth and nail for every point. Katie Burke showcased her shooting prowess, draining key three-pointers to maintain Hunter's momentum. Brooklyn, however was able to keep up as Hunter held a slim 32-30 lead heading into the intermission.
As the game progressed into the second half, Brooklyn stepped up its defensive pressure, causing Hunter to struggle with turnovers. Despite Hunter's efforts to maintain the lead the Hawks were overwhelmed by Brooklyn's defense as they were outscored 23-14 in the final quarter to secure a 65-59 win.
Charles led the Hawks with 21 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Cosio with 14 points. Burke also made significant contributions with eight points and eight rebounds for the night.
The Hawks closed out their regular season at 15-12 overall and 10-4 in conference.
