BOX SCORE Queens, N.Y.- The Hunter College's women's tennis team (1-2) faced a tough outing against Pratt at the USTA National Tennis Center, falling 7-0 in their third match of the season. Despite the loss, the Hawks showed resilience, with several players battling hard in singles and doubles play.
In doubles action, the pairing of Anna Chapko and Julia Aksamentova fought valiantly in the #1 doubles spot but ultimately fell 6-3 to a strong Pratt duo. The #2 team of Sara Contreras and Sara Novo also put up a solid effort, keeping the score close before dropping their match 6-3. Hunter's #3 doubles team, Summer Nietubicz and Samantha Soued, found themselves overwhelmed by Pratt's aggressive play, falling 6-1.
Singles play saw some bright moments for Hunter, particularly in the #3 spot, where Novo gave Pratt's Srishti Agarwal a real challenge. Novo pushed the first set to a tiebreak before narrowly losing 7-6. Though she struggled in the second set, her performance in the first was a highlight of the day for Hunter.
At #4 singles, Aksamentova battled hard, showing flashes of her potential despite a 6-2, 6-3 loss. Nietubicz at #5 singles and Ava Cooper at #6 singles both fought in their respective matches, each grabbing a couple of games in their sets but ultimately falling 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
In the top singles spot, Chapko faced a tough challenge against Pratt's Kayla Abraham, who controlled the match from start to finish, defeating Chapko 6-0, 6-0. Despite the scoreline, Chapko's persistence and determination were evident throughout the match.
While the final result didn't favor the Hawks, they will look to regroup and continue to build on their individual performances as they return to the courts on Sept. 21 for a road match against Purchase. First serve is slated for 11:00 a.m.Â
