BOX SCORE Bronx, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's tennis team secured its second conference with of the season, with a 6-2 win over City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) opponent, Lehman College. With the win, the Hawks advance to 2-3 overall, with a perfect 2-0 in league play, while the Lightening dropped to 2-6 (1-2 CUNYAC).
The Hawks set the tone early in doubles, Â winning two out of three matches. The team of Julia Aksamentova and Sree Kolla triumphed in a hard-fought battle at second doubles, securing an 8-6 victory. Meanwhile, the third doubles pair of Ava Cooper and Hannah Butterworth delivered a commanding 8-3 win, showcasing excellent chemistry and teamwork.
The singles matches were where Hunter truly dominated. Julia Aksamentova was unstoppable at third singles, cruising to a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-1), while Sree Kolla followed suit with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 win at fourth singles. Both players controlled their matches from start to finish, overpowering their opponents with consistency and precision.
In fifth singles, Ava Cooper blanked her opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 win, further solidifying Hunter's grip on the match. Hannah Butterworth rounded out the singles wins for Hunter with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at sixth singles, closing the day on a high note for the Hawks.Â
The Hawks are back in action Sept. 26 as they travel to York for another CUNYAC match at 3:00 p.m.
