Dallas. Pa,.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team opened up play at the Cougar Clash, hosted by Misericordia, on Friday evening with a straight set victory over Oswego State, taking the match 25-16, 27-25, 25-23. Win the win, the Hawks improve to 9-4 overall, while Oswego drops to 7-9.
Leading the way offensively for the Hawks was Izabella Williams, who posted 11 kills and contributed significantly on defense with 19 digs. Williams' all-around effort helped Hunter stay composed during crucial moments, particularly in the tight second and third sets.
Amina Moummad was another key player, delivering nine kills while hitting .179. Moummad also contributed defensively, recording 11 digs, and added a service ace to her tally, helping the Hawks keep Oswego State at bay.
Xheni Doci shined as the team's primary setter, dishing out 22 assists and adding 4 service aces, providing consistent opportunities for the attackers. Doci also recorded 15 digs, showcasing her versatility in both play making and defense. Erin Dugan also played a crucial role from the service line, scoring 4 service aces while adding 11 digs to Hunter's defensive efforts.
Simone McIntyre added 5 kills and 10 digs, contributing to the team's balanced attack, while Lily Mattison and Williams each recorded a solo block, demonstrating Hunter's strength at the net.
The Hawks finished with 69 total digs, a testament to their tenacious back-row play that kept rallies alive and allowed them to capitalize on key moments throughout the match. The squad continues its season with an 8 p.m. match against Centernary this evening.
