Kings Point, N.Y.- The Hunter College wrestling team traveled to compete in the Mariner Duals on Saturday, where the Hawks battled against Norwich University and Plymouth State University. While Hunter faced tough competition, standout performances by freshman Jayden Medina highlighted the day.

Against Norwich, Medina delivered a dominant performance in the 149-pound bout, earning Hunter's sole victory in the dual. Medina pinned Norwich's Josh Lister in 3:21, showcasing his aggressive and technical prowess on the mat. Freshman Justin Riello (157 lbs) also secured a 9-0 shut out major decision over Ethan Tanner. Despite the freshmen's impressive individual efforts, Hunter fell to Norwich by a score of 48-6.

In the matchup against Plymouth State, Medina shined once again, notching his second fall of the day. Facing Nick Nicosia, Medina secured the pin at 2:25 to add six points to Hunter's total. Martin Palomeque also contributed for the Hawks, claiming a decisive technical fall victory over Damari Goldsmith-Greene at 157 pounds, winning 21-4 in 5:19. Hunter ultimately dropped the dual to Plymouth State, 48-11.

The Hawks faced challenges throughout the event, with many matches decided by falls or technical falls in favor of their opponents. However, Medina's back-to-back pins and Palomeque's dominant performance were bright spots that showcased the team's potential moving forward.

Hunter returns to the mat on Jan. 18 for the New York vs Pennsylvania Duals where they will compete against Keystone, Wilkes, and Penn College, starting at 6:00 p.m.
