New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's volleyball team (0-2) fell in three sets to Springfield College (1-1) on Friday evening in the Sportsplex. Despite moments of promise, the Hawks were unable to overcome Springfield's offensive efficiency.
Hunter opened the match with an energetic start, as Lucas George and Annes Deljanin combined for seven kills in the first set. However, the Hawks struggled with consistency, committing five attack errors, which allowed Springfield to secure a 25-14 set victory.
In the second set, Hunter showed resilience. Kyle Foley led the offense with four kills, while Brandon Yeh contributed nine assists. Defensive efforts, highlighted by Crisostomo Ibarra's five digs, kept the Hawks competitive, but Springfield pulled away late, taking the set 25-16.
The third set saw Hunter's Felipe Delgado step up, recording two kills on a .400 hitting percentage, while Ahmed Mohamed added three kills and a block. Despite these efforts, the Hawks were unable to sustain their momentum, falling 25-13.
As a team, Hunter registered a .058 hitting percentage with 19 kills. George, Deljanin, and Mohamed each tallied three kills, while Yeh distributed nine assists. On defense, Ibarra led with five digs, and Mohamed added four.
Hunter will look to regroup as they prepare to host their next match on Jan. 28 against Purchase College. First-serve is slated for 6:00 p.m. in the Sportsplex.
