New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team hosted John Jay College on Friday night, falling 103-66 in the Sportsplex.
The Hawks (4-16, 2-7 CUNYAC) opened the game with a strong showing from beyond the arc, as Jack Meyers and Enzo Caceres-Roussel each knocked down early three-pointers to keep Hunter within striking distance. A triple from Donovan Cola at the 10:34 mark cut the deficit to 11, but John Jay (15-5, 8-1 CUNYAC) responded with a dominant offensive stretch, pushing their lead to 24 points by the final minutes of the first half.
Hunter struggled to contain the Bloodhounds' perimeter shooting, which contributed to a 56-32 halftime deficit.
Despite the margin, the Hawks showed resilience in the second half. Caceres-Roussel drained another three-pointer early in the period, and Gene Propper followed with back-to-back triples to give Hunter some momentum. Sal Saputo added a strong effort off the bench, finishing with eight points.
In his Hunter debut, Felipe Carter showed promise tying with Caceres-Roussel for a team-best 10 points, including a transition layup midway through the second half. Meyers added six points, while Cola finished with seven points and six rebounds.
Hunter returns to the court on Feb. 4 as they travel to Brooklyn for a 7:15 p.m. conference matchup.Â
