Hawks Close Regular Season Play with Senior Day

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team closed out the regular season and celebrated its Senior Day with a hard fought 1-0 loss to Baruch College on Wednesday afternoon.

Before the match, the Hawks honored their graduating seniors in Ahmed AbukarConor Sullivan, Gregory Papadopoulos, David Zlobinsky, and Saleel Eldin, recognizing their commitment, leadership, and contributions to the program.

Despite the final score, the Purple and Gold showed resilience and energy throughout the contest, matching Baruch (5-4-4, 4-1-2 CUNYAC)  in total shots (17–17) and holding a 10-9 edge in shots on goal.

Hunter had several opportunities to equalize after falling behind 1–0 in the 26th minute. Georgios Tsiakas led the offensive charge, recording five shots with three on frame, while Patrick Irving added four attempts, including one that hit the crossbar in the 76th minute.

Ahmed Abukar, Leonardo Kaplan, and Brandon Fridburg each tested the opposing keeper with shots of their own, while David Zlobinsky and Kaplan both contributed key moments in the midfield.

In net, Matthew Fridburg made eight saves, four in each half, keeping the Hawks within striking distance. His eight saves and 17 shots faced were career-highs for the rookie.

With the loss, Hunter wraps the regular season at 5-6-4 overall and 2-2-3 in conference play, and awaits seeding for the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) post-season tournament.
