Hawsk Split DeSales Tri-Match

CENTER VALLEY, PA.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the DeSales Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon, earning a gritty five-set win over Hood College before falling to host DeSales University in straight sets. Hunter now sits at 8-20 overall, with a 3-2 record in CUNYAC play.

In the opener against Hood, the Hawks rallied from a first-set loss to outlast their opponents in five sets (19-25, 25-21, 25-12, 19-25, 15-11). Amina Moummad was electric throughout the contest, tallying 15 kills and 19 digs to go along with a service ace and two block assists. Lily Mattison added 12 kills and three blocks while Michelle Liu contributed nine kills and five total blocks.

The team hit an impressive .368 in the third set to take the lead, then showed composure in the fifth with a .300 hitting percentage to secure the match. Madeline Snyder paced the offense with 44 assists while chipping in 13 digs, three aces and two kills of her own. Natalie Morrill added a team-high 23 digs, and Theano Liodakis served up four aces.

In the second match of the day, Hunter couldn't overcome a strong DeSales squad, falling in three sets (15-25, 22-25, 17-25). Moummad again led the Hawks with 13 kills and 15 digs, while Mattison chipped in seven kills and three aces. Snyder handed out 22 assists and tallied six digs, and Liu and Natalie Morrill combined for 15 more digs.

Despite the loss, Hunter played DeSales tight in the second set, hitting .167 and closing the gap late before falling just short.

The Hawks return to the court on Oct. 30 as they host CCNY on the team's annual Senior Night at 6:00 p..m.
