Men’s Cross Country Wins Fifth Straight CUNYAC Championship

BRONX, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's cross country team captured its fifth straight City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) title on Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park.

The Hawks scored 28 points, finishing ahead of Baruch in second with 45 points. Brooklyn took third with 78 points, followed by CCNY (100), Medgar Evers (128) and Lehman (175).

Hunter had four runners finish in the top-10, led by senior standout Mateo Penafiel, who placed second overall with a time of 28:07.1 in the 8K race. Joining him on the podium in third was Brian Arias, who clocked in at 28:22.7. Freshman Jack Treacher placed sixth overall, crossing the tape in 30:50.7, while Hengzhi Zhu rounded out the top-10 finishes in seventh place with a time of 30:56.6. Rookie Robert Lian Xu also impressed, finishing 11th overall with a time of 31:36.6.

With the victory, the Hawks continued their conference dominance, earning the program's 26th overall CUNYAC men's cross country championship.
