MONTCLAIR, N.J.-The Hunter College women's volleyball team wrapped up a competitive weekend at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon, falling to Montclair State and Stevens Institute of Technology in a non-conference tri-match. With the results, the Hawks dropped to 4-15 overall on the season.
Match 1: Montclair State 3, Hunter 0Â
(25-12, 25-19, 25-18)
In the opener, Hunter faced off against a strong Montclair State (14-3) squad and showed flashes of resilience, especially in the second and third sets.
Kassidy Cruz Nuesi paced the Hunter attack with nine kills on 22 attempts, posting a .364 hitting percentage. Sophomore Michelle Liu added four kills, while Vera Montalbano chipped in three kills and two block assists in an encouraging performance.
Madeline Snyder dished out a team-high 23 assists and led the defense with 11 digs. Lily Mattison also contributed defensively with nine digs and five kills on the outside.
Hunter's most competitive stretch came in the second set, where they totaled nine kills against just four errors, good for their best set hitting percentage of the match (.167), but were unable to overcome the hosts.

Match 2: Stevens 3, Hunter 0
(25-16, 25-9, 25-11)
In the second contest, the Hawks ran into a hot-hitting Stevens (8-7) team that recorded a .400 attack percentage. Despite the challenge, Hunter continued to see valuable contributions across the team.
Deanna Vinitski led the team with four kills and one solo block, while Mattison again topped the attack charts with five kills. Snyder collected a team-high seven assists and four digs.
Montalbano tallied a kill and a block assist off the bench, while Simone McIntyre posted five digs to help steady the back row.
The Hawks struggled to find rhythm offensively, finishing with a .048 hitting percentage, but managed to tally four team blocks and 20 total digs.

Hunter looks to rebound at the team's home opener on Oct. 7. The Hawks will host conference opponent, John Jay in the Sportsplex for a 6 p.m. start.
