#4 Hunter’s Postseason Run Ends in Semifinals Against #1 John Jay

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The fourth-seeded Hunter College women's volleyball team saw its season come to a close on Thursday night, falling in straight sets to top-seeded John Jay in the CUNYAC Championship semifinals at the Doghouse. The Hawks battled through tight stretches in all three frames but came up short, 25–23, 25–18, 25–19, finishing the year at 10–25 overall.

Hunter opened the match with one of its strongest offensive sets of the postseason, hitting .233 behind balanced contributions at the net. Amina Moummad set the tone early, putting down four of her match-high 10 kills in the first frame while adding steady back-row play with seven digs. Michelle Liu added three kills in the opening set, helping the Hawks stay within striking distance throughout a frame that featured two ties and a lead change.

The second set marked Hunter's toughest stretch offensively, but the Hawks' kept the match competitive. Natalie Morrill anchored the back row with six digs, while setter Madeline Snyder spread the offense with 23 assists on the night and added a kill and eight digs.  Lily Mattison chipped in a service ace and four block assists as Hunter worked to slow John Jay's attack at the net.

In the third set, the Purple and Gold again matched the pace early behind efficient swings from Liu, who closed her night with seven kills on .211 hitting. Moummad added four more kills in the set, while Mattison recorded two key blocks and finished with six kills overall. Kassidy Cruz Nuesi, Ana Duran, and Theano Liodakis each added contributions at the net, with Duran posting a block and three digs.
Hunter's serving proved effective throughout the match, totaling six aces from five different players, including two from Liodakis. Defensively, the Hawks collected 40 digs, led by Snyder's eight, while the blocking unit combined for 10 assists.

Despite a strong collective effort and multiple late-set pushes, Hunter could not overcome the top seed's offense in the closing points of each frame.
The match concludes the Hawks' 2025 campaign, one that featured significant growth from a young roster and postseason wins that carried Hunter back to the conference semifinals.
