Hunter Falls to SUNY Maritime in Home Contest

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Hunter College men's basketball team dropped its fifth straight game to start the season, falling 76–54 to SUNY Maritime on Wednesday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex.

The Hawks (0–5) trailed by 10 at halftime, but Maritime used a 46-point second-half outburst to pull away behind transition baskets and second-chance opportunities. Hunter struggled to find offensive rhythm, finishing just 3-of-21 from three-point range.

Sloan Ireland led the way for Hunter with 15 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks, shooting an efficient 7-of-11 from the field. Jeremiah Otasowie added 12 points, six rebounds, and a pair of steals, while John Paul Maaba chipped in eight points and a team-high five rebounds from the guard spot.

Noah Outmezguine was a bright spot off the bench, scoring 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting and knocking down one of Hunter's three triples. Zachary Lebowitz added three points, four rebounds, and two assists in a reserve role.

The Hawks committed 19 turnovers, which Maritime turned into 28 points. Despite collecting 40 total rebounds and shooting 71.4% from the line (15-of-21), Hunter could not overcome Maritime's 23 fast break points and 11 made three-pointers.

Hunter continues its home stretch on Nov. 22 against Penn State Berks at 12 p.m. in the Sportsplex.
