POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Hunter College women's volleyball team concluded regular season play on Saturday with a pair of non-conference matchups at the Vassar Tri-Match, falling in both contests to close out the weekend at Kenyon Hall. The Hawks drop to 9-24 overall ahead of the upcoming City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Tournament.
Match 1: Hunter 1, Merchant Marine 3
Set Scores: 22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 16-25
Hunter came out competitive in its opening match, taking the second set and narrowly missing a chance to push the match to five.
Lily Mattison led the way with 13 kills and eight digs, while
Amina Moummad tallied 11 kills and matched Mattison with eight digs of her own.
Ana Duran posted an efficient .400 hitting percentage with four kills, and
Michelle Liu contributed six kills and two service aces. Setter
Madeline Snyder guided the offense with 32 assists and added 15 digs on defense. Libero
Natalie Polanco anchored the back row with a match-high 18 digs.
Match 2: Hunter 1, Vassar 3
Set Scores: 14-25, 28-26, 9-25, 12-25
In the second match of the day, the Hawks bounced back from a tough opening set to grind out a dramatic second-set win, fueled by 14 team kills.
Michelle Liu led the offense with nine kills on a .438 hitting percentage, while Moummad recorded eight kills and nine digs.
Mattison chipped in seven kills and 12 digs, and Snyder registered 27 assists with 14 digs. Polanco added 14 digs from the back row, and
Ana Duran was strong at the net with five block assists.
The Hawks will now set their sights on the CUNYAC postseason as they prepare to enter tournament play on Nov. 11 as the squad hosts CCNY at 6 p.m.
