NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team fought down to the wire in a competitive contest at home on Tuesday evening. With 24 seconds left, Jayden Jarrett, in his first game back from injury, powered his way to the basket to give the Hawks the lead and secure a 62–60 win over the University of Mount Saint Vincent.
The Hawks (2–6) showcased their progress and growing chemistry behind a collective effort. Jarrett and Georgios Gastias led with 12 points apiece, while Jarrett added eight rebounds along with a block and a steal. Demetrios Kontos was a standout on both ends, netting nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc, grabbing eight rebounds, and posting a career-best five blocks.
Freshman Jeremiah Otasowie was instrumental in the win, scoring eight points and pulling down five rebounds. The Queens native dished out a team-high six assists and recorded two steals for a well-rounded performance.
Center Sloan Ireland chipped in eight points and eight rebounds, while Kristina Nunez added three blocks, contributing to Hunter's 11 total blocks compared to the Dolphins' two. Despite being outrebounded 42–40, Hunter shot 39.3% from the field and held Mount Saint Vincent (0–6) to 33.8%.
The Hawks return to the court on Dec. 5 for the final night of a six-game homestand during the team's annual homecoming celebration against cross-town rival Baruch. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. in the Sportsplex.
