Hunter Clinches Regular Season Title as Charles Sets Scoring Record in Dominant Win Over Lehman

BOX SCORE

BRONX, N.Y. — Hunter College women's basketball clinched the CUNYAC regular-season championship in commanding fashion on Saturday afternoon, defeating Lehman College 92-66 on the road. The win was punctuated by a historic milestone as Alexa Charles became the program's all-time leading scorer, with 1,796 career points.

The Hawks (18-5, 12-1 CUNYAC) wasted no time establishing control, racing to a 30-13 lead in the first quarter behind Charles' inside dominance and sharp outside shooting from Erin Cosio. Charles, who finished with 34 points and 17 rebounds, opened her record-breaking night with a smooth mid-range jumper and continued to attack the glass, fueling a fast-paced offense that overwhelmed Lehman early.

Hunter's relentless scoring continued into the second quarter as Gianna Henriques asserted herself in the paint, tallying 16 points, six rebounds, and four blocks. The Hawks' defense stifled Lehman's offense, forcing key turnovers that led to transition baskets. Cosio remained deadly from beyond the arc, finishing 5-of-8 from three-point range en route to 17 points. By halftime, Hunter had built a 54-34 cushion.

Despite a brief Lehman surge in the third quarter, Hunter never lost control. Charles continued her historic night with a putback layup off an offensive rebound, officially etching her name atop the program's scoring leaderboard. The milestone bucket was met with cheers from teammates and the traveling Hunter fans.

The Hawks closed out the game with efficiency, maintaining a lead of over 20 points throughout the final quarter. Katie Burke chipped in 11 points, while Kimberly Lau provided key contributions off the bench with six points and three assists. Hunter dominated the glass, out-rebounding Lehman 46-37, and shot an impressive 57.6% from the field.

With the win, Hunter secures the No. 1 seed heading into the CUNYAC tournament, a testament to their dominant regular-season run. Charles' record-setting performance adds another layer to the team's championship aspirations as the Hawks look to carry their momentum into postseason play.

Hunter will conclude its regular season on Feb. 18 as they host York College for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off for the team's annual Senior Night.
