BRONX, N.Y. — The Hunter College men's basketball battled back in the second half but fell short against Lehman College, 83-69, on Saturday at The APEX. Despite the loss, the Hawks showed resilience, outscoring the hosts after halftime behind standout performances from Felipe Carter and Jayden Jarret.
Hunter (5-19, 3-10 CUNYAC) found itself in an early deficit as Lehman opened with a strong first half, but the Hawks remained within striking distance. Felipe Carter led the charge, finishing with 18 points, including three three-pointers, while Jarret was dominant inside, posting 17 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds.
After trailing 36-23 at the break, Hunter responded with a more efficient offensive performance in the second half. Jack Meyers provided a spark with 16 points and four steals, knocking down two three-pointers as the Hawks clawed back into the contest. Casey Meyers added nine points and five rebounds, while Enzo Caceres-Roussel facilitated the offense with five assists.
The Hawks made their strongest push midway through the second half, cutting the deficit to single digits behind a series of transition baskets from Jarret and a key three-pointer from Carter. Donovan Cola added six points off the bench to provide much-needed depth.
Despite Hunter's efforts, Lehman maintained its edge at the free-throw line and controlled the boards, limiting the Hawks' second-chance opportunities. Hunter shot 42.2% from the field and improved to 7-of-19 from three-point range in the second half after struggling from deep in the first.
The Hawks return to the court on Feb. 18 as they host York for the team's annual Senior Night at 7:00 p.m.
