NEW YORK —The Hunter College women's basketball team suffered a tough road loss to Brooklyn College on Tuesday night, with a final score of 68-47.
Hunter (15-5, 9-1 CUNYAC) started strong, keeping pace with Brooklyn (11-10, 7-3 CUNYAC) through the first quarter, but the team struggled offensively in the second, sending the Hawks into the intermission in a double-digit deficit.
Despite the loss, Alexa Charles had an impressive double-double performance with 18 points and 14 rebounds, along with three steals and one block. Eliah Yode followed with 12 points and three rebounds, shooting an efficient 5-for-9 from the field. Gianna Henriques provided a strong presence in the paint, contributing seven points, seven rebounds and three blocks. while graduate student, Kimberly Lau disthed out six assists.
Brooklyn capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 24 points off offensive rebounds, while Hunter struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 2-for-15 (13.3%) from three-point range. The Hawks also had difficulty taking care of the ball, committing 20 turnovers, which Brooklyn converted into 25 points.
Hunter made a late push in the fourth quarter but was unable to cut into the lead. The Hawks will look to bounce back on Feb. 6 when they travel to Baruch College for another Battle of Lexington. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
