BOX SCORE 2 NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Hunter College men's volleyball team (13-9, 7-1 CUNYAC) put together a strong showing Saturday, sweeping CCNY (2-14, 1-8 CUNYAC) and Mount Saint Vincent in a neutral-site match during a tri-match at the Hunter Sportsplex. The Hawks remained in control throughout both matches, winning each in straight sets and extending their CUNYAC record to 7-1.
Game 1
Hunter set the tone early in the first match, quickly taking control with a 25-6 opening set victory before securing a straight-set win over CCNY. Kyle Foley led the offense with six kills on a blistering .857 hitting percentage, while Demetri Gournelos and Jon Domingo combined for seven kills. Brandon Yeh facilitated the attack with 16 assists, helping Hunter execute efficiently throughout the match.
The Hawks' aggressive serving remained a difference-maker, racking up 18 total aces and continuing their strong play from previous matches. Ahmed Mohamed led the team with four aces, while Hunter's strong defensive play limited CCNY's attack to a negative hitting percentage (-.055).
Game 2
Hunter carried its momentum into the second match, securing a 25-7, 25-13, 25-14 sweep in a neutral-site contest against Mount Saint Vincent. Jon Pflueger delivered a well-rounded performance, leading the team with eight kills while also contributing seven aces. Lucas George, Annes Deljanin, and Ahmed Mohamed combined for 13 additional kills, ensuring a balanced offensive effort.
Wesley Stubbs also commanded the offense with 17 assists, keeping the attack fluid and efficient. The Hawks' serving continued to apply pressure, as they added 15 more aces, making it difficult for Mount Saint Vincent to establish any rhythm.
Hunter was in control from the opening serve in both matches, capitalizing on well-placed attacks, sharp passing, and relentless pressure from the service line to close out each opponent in straight sets.
